Class 95FM deejays Glenn Ong and Jean Danker are the celebrity ambassadors for the TODAY Fantasy League, and they are determine to outdo each other with their fantasy teams, so let's see who might get the upper hand with their initial selection:

(Note: Team selection as at 1st Sep, 12am)

GlennOngUnited

Glenn Ong made wholesale changes to his side after his starting 11 was published in Today, with only Phil Neville, Gareth Barry & Captain RVP left untouched. and have maintained a 4-3-3 formation. His current team cost £54.5m, leaving £0.5m in the bank currently.

The Diagnosis

• Defence looks pretty strong, with representation from each of the top 4 teams from last season plus Everton. Hibbert is currently doubtful, so one should monitor his injury situation closer to the deadline.


• Midfield is a worrying factor. Phil Neville was involved (aka created or scored) a grand total of 0 Premier League goals last season. If he repeats this performance this season, his best returns will only be 38pts, which is very low.


• Gareth Barry just recovered from a abdominal injury, and is likely to play once the internationals are over. But his role in Man City is often used as a central midfielder, rarely venturing forward. He scored only 5 goals in the past 3 seasons. Though he's cheap (3.7), and made 3 assists last season, I'm not sure if he's worth a place in the team.


• Luke Moore isn't a 1st choice striker for Swansea, making only 3 starts out of 22 appearances last season, with 2 goals and no assists. With a price tag of 5.0, it's a hefty investment for someone sitting on the bench.

The Treatment

If a team needs to make 5 or more changes, I'll recommend the manager to revamp the entire team instead.

For GlennOngUnited, I'll leave Hibbert in the team, and recommend the following:

• Transfer out Phil Neville, Gareth Barry & Luke Moore, leaving the team with (0.5+3.5+3.7+5.0) =  £12.7m


• Change the formation to 4-4-2. Why get a 5.0pts bench striker, when one is able to get a 1st team midfielder for much lesser? Which means any of the midfield choices will be less than 5.0pts.


• As De Gea + RVP makes up the Man Utd contingent, Kagawa is ruled out. Hence, I'll go with the next highest priced midfielder, Yaya Toure (4.8).


• Since I've gone with a Man City transfer, I'll repeat the same trick for Everton (Phil Neville -> Marouane Fellaini) & Swansea (Luke Moore -> Michu)

Summary: P.Neville, G.Barry, L.Moore OUT -> Y.Toure, M.Fellaini, Michu IN

Formation (4-4-2): De Gea, A.Cole, Kompany, Vermaelen, Hibbert, Y.Toure, Fellaini, Michu, Arteta, RVP, D.Ba.

JeanDankerSuperstars!

Jean Danker didn't make any changes to her side since the article was published. Her team used up £52.8m, leaving £2.2m to spare. Usually, when a team has more than £0.5m to spare, it means the team is not fully optimised, and on 1st glance, her team might need some major overhaul...

The Diagnosis

• Wayne Rooney & Richard Dunne are out with injuries. SAF mentioned that Rooney is out till end-September, though papers have rumored he'll be out for 2 months instead, while Dunne has undergone a groin operation in early August and is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.


• Kieran Richardson has transferred to Fulham on deadline day. With Riise already picked for the team, JeanDankerSuperstars! will have 2 Fulham defenders. Whether it's wise to have double-up on Fulham defence remains to be seen.


• Michael Essien is on loan to Real Madrid, while Aaron Ramsey's appearances from the bench might be less worrying, as Wenger might have been slowly bringing him back into 1st team action, due to his Olympics involvement.  I've covered Gareth Barry earlier, hence I'll not repeat. 

The Treatment

I'm not comfortable with Fulham double-up defence, as they still have a poor away record.  Even if I left Ramsey in the team, there's 5 changes I would recommend.

Sorry Jean Danker, please revamp your entire team. :(
