What if...Today Fantasy League have started? (Updated with Wk 3)

Time to blast back to the past...erm...5 days What if...Today Fantasy League have started?, and include the statistics from the recently concluded Week 3?

Note: Stats are obtained from Fantasy Premier League. Assists determined by TFL may differ from FPL.

Top Goalkeepers (What if...) - 12/13
Let's see a show of hands, who would have predicted that WBA's Ben Foster will be the top scoring Goalkeeper after 3 weeks? Has their 1st 3 weeks of resilience made you consider Foster as a budget option in your fantasy team, instead of the early favourite Joe Hart, whom Man City have yet to keep a clean sheet?

Goalkeeper used to be a position of security. One would rarely see the 2nd-choice goalkeeper on the pitch unless due to injuries (e.g. Mannone) or an unimportant match. This week however, we witness De Gea being dropped in due to his mistakes against Fulham, and Shay Given on the bench due to Villa's poor performances in the 1st 2 matches. With Tottenham's Brad Friedal facing tough competition from newcomer Hugo Lloris (yet to be added in database), even the mid-range choices might not have any value after all.

Top Fullbacks (What if...) - 12/13
Ivanovic remained as the best Fullback at the moment, thanks to his 2 goals & 2 clean sheets, while the Arsenal duo of Gibbs & Jenkinson took the next 2 slots with their clean sheet against Liverpool. Do note that Sagna was touted to return after the internationals, so fantasy managers selecting Jenkinson might have to rethink about this choice.

Unfortunately, Neil Taylor is out of action for the rest of the season due to a serious ankle injury, and his deputy, Ben Davies, is yet to be included in the database, but from what I read, he's a highly touted youngster who has been called up by Wales for this internationals.

Top Centrebacks (What if...) - 12/13
Gareth McAuley rose to the top with his goal & shutout against Everton, while West Ham's Winston Reid was the top mover with similar returns.

Swansea's Chico will be serving a three-match ban for the red card received against Sunderland on for serious foul play which will see him miss league matches with Aston Villa and Everton. With 2 of their 1st choice defenders out, fantasy managers should be cautioned of their clean sheet prospects if they were to select Angel Rangel & Ashley Williams.

Top Midfielders (What if...) - 12/13
The Swans' trio of Michu, Dyer & Routledge yet again profit from their attacking nature, with Michu & Routledge grabbing a goal each, while Dyer created one. Yet another word of caution: new signing Pablo Hernandez might be due for a start in the flanks, with Routledge likely to make way.

Last season's top midfielder David Silva have yet to achieve any attacking returns, and fantasy managers might look towards Yaya Toure instead. Despite starting in a deeper role, he already has 2 goals and 1 assist in the season, and looks the most likely starter among all Man City midfielders, not to mentioned he's 0.9mil cheaper than Silva.

Top Strikers (What if...) - 12/13
Making his debut in this season, Sunderland's Steven Fletcher shot up the ranking with 9 possible points on Saturday. Keeping in mind that Sunderland will have to play their postponed match in due time, he would be a popular choice as a 3rd striker in a 4-3-3 formation, with a 'cheap' price of 5.9mil.

Unbelievably, 9 points is only the 3rd best performance for a striker. Carlos Tevez scored once, and created 2 goals for 11pts total...only to be beaten by a Robin van Persie's hattrick, resulting in 13 pts

So, which of the big 3 strikers (Hazard, Tevez, RVP) would you leave out from your team?

Are you bored by the Internationals week? If you haven't done so, why not sign up for Today Fantasy League! :)
